Types of household insurance
To be properly insured, you need both buildings insurance, and home contents insurance.
Buildings insurance protects you against damage to the structure of your home, such as by fire. Fixtures and fittings (e.g. permanently attached lighting and heating appliances, your bath and shower) are also covered.
All your possessions need to be covered by your home contents policy. In a nutshell, these can be described as the items you would take with you if you moved house.
